It is a program that calculates and shows how to optimize sustainable retirement spending.

Here's an example of what you might see if you run it after entering data for yourself (or your client) and spouse.

1. To download the zip file "deployment.zip", click here.
(The above doesn't work in Safari, Internet Explorer or Opera Mini. If you are using one of those browsers, download the zip file from here.)
2. Unzip "deployment.zip" in a directory where you want to run the program.
3. Double-click vcredist_x86.exe, which will install the Microsoft Visual Studio redistributable files needed to run the program.

For details on how to use the program, click here and download the basic.pdf and expert.pdf files for instructions on basic mode and expert mode, respectively.

Companion book available

The companion book, Retirement Life Insurance: How Much is Needed to Optimize Retirement Spending, is on sale at DeGruyter.com and Amazon.com.

Here are the significant changes to the program since the publication of the book:
  1. Tax calculations updated to 2018 law.
  2. Years of expiration of suggested insurance are shown on the main screen.
  3. Added a check box on the Assets tab to specify whether taxable accounts are community property.
  4. Stepping up basis on taxable accounts when one spouse dies. Amount of step-up depends on whether the community property checkbox is selected.
  5. Added a feature in the tax test tab to allow data to be copied from a year column in the spreadsheet.
